MUMBAI: The secretary of a co-operative credit society was found dead with head injuries in her office in Palghar on Saturday night.
The matter came to light when the 57-year-old woman did not return home after work on Saturday evening. Her family called up a neighbouring shopkeeper to check if the victim was still in office. He went to the society office and found the woman lying in a pool of blood. He called the Palghar police.
Staff members who had left for their homes were called back to the office. They told the police that Rs 50,000 was intact in the office.
Police have ruled out robbery and suspect the killer to be a loan defaulter. The victim had injuries on the head and had bled to death. The body has been sent for autopsy. A case of murder under IPC section 302 has been registered against unknown person.
CCTV footages of the incident are being examined for leads.
