LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday decided to hand over Ghaziabad’s Muradnagar crematorium roof collapse case to special investigation team of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW).
Additional chief secretary (information) Navneet Sehgal said the additional director general of police was preparing a detailed report on the incident but due to charges of corruption in construction of the crematorium, Economic Offences Wing’s SIT would also probe the matter.
“The special team has been appointed to look into any lapses which led to the tragedy,” Sehgal said.
On Sunday, at least 25 people died after the roof of crematorium caved in.
The government has invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against the engineer and the contractor responsible for the crematorium’s construction.
The CM also ordered an inquiry to ascertain the role of the Ghaziabad district magistrate and divisional officials in the case.
