NEW DELHI: A BSF officer was shot at from point-blank range by two teenagers near Dwarka on New Year’s Eve. The victim ducked in time and survived despite being shot on the face and shoulder. Police have nabbed his wife’s boyfriend along with a state-level judo player and a minor, who the boyfriend had hired to kill the officer, Baljeet.
The wife was found to be part of the conspiracy and had complained to her boyfriend, Sunil Dayal, who is her brother-in-law, about Baljeet ill-treating her. Dayal had then hatched a plan to kill him. Two days before the attack, a recce was done to trace the target’s movements, police said.
At 5.45am on Thursday, when Baljeet stepped out to leave for work, two unidentified men approached him and opened fire. Passersby and residents reported the matter to police and the victim was taken to a hospital, where his condition is currently stable.
DCP (Dwarka) Santosh Kumar Meena said during investigation, when the CCTV footage was checked, a white Swift was spotted receeing the scene of crime for the past 2-3 days. The same car was spotted outside the victim’s apartment on the day of the incident.
“Details of the vehicle were obtained and we managed to zero in on the suspects. With the help of technical surveillance, Dayal was arrested. He told us of his relationship with the victim’s wife. Dayal said she had asked him to kill him, for which he hired the juvenile and Akshay Tiwari (18). On the day of attack, he remained in the car while Tiwari and the juvenile shot at the victim,” the DCP added.
